It was Saturday morning and I was again seated in Amoun’s office. As was his way, Amoun offered me a cup of coffee, asked if I was comfortable, and inquired, “So, why are you here?” Having learned from our previous exchange, I answered differently. “To find God,” I replied.
Amoun looked at me and smiled, “That’s a little better, but is not the reason. I have something you need and this need pulls you toward me. This need can only be filled by the Light. The Light calls to the spark within you; the spark needs to be rekindled. Like calls to like. The answer to this question cannot be spoken; it must be experienced and perceived. That is why you come here. To experience the Light and awaken that which has been asleep.
“When last we met, you experienced the Beloved’s Caress and now know what you are seeking. This is only a beginning and is not the goal. It is a foretaste of future experience and preparation for something finer and more useful. There is an emptiness inside of you and the Light will fill it so that you might better work and serve. This realization and experience can only occur when the traveler is ready. A preparation is necessary. The Light of understanding will remove the cobwebs of selfish living that surround your heart. You are the obstacle that stands in your way. The Teacher’s job is to show all of this to you and give you the tools necessary to travel on your own. The end result is service and love of God.”

Amoun continued, “Tell me about the homeless one.”
Startled, I questioned, “How did you know about that?”
“The Teacher knows everything he needs to know to help the student. All things are recorded and available to those who need to know. In time and space, there is no beginning or end; it is a continuum that starts in the past, continues in the present, and reaches into the future. That which has happened is recorded and that which is about to occur is a potential. The future is not fixed. The Teacher has access to assist the student. Now, tell me about the homeless one.”
“Well, I was feeling relieved, good even, after my session with Dr. Lannis. I thought I would spread my good feelings about by trying to help another. This fellow seemed hungry so I bought him something to eat.”
“Then what happened,” said Amoun.
“The fellow rejected my help and threw the pretzel and drink on the ground. Immediately, pigeons went after the food.”
“So, what did you learn from this?”
Somewhat puzzled I replied, “What do you mean learned from it?”
“You were supposed to learn something. That was why the gift was rejected.”
Stammering, I continued, “I was supposed to learn something…That was why the gift was rejected…What do you mean? The situation was engineered?”
“The point of the life is to learn and grow closer to the Light. We do this so we might better serve. In this act, your gift was rejected because it was based upon your need and not the need of the situation. You felt good so you wanted to help another. Yet, you did not question if you could be of help. You assumed, based upon previous experience, you could be helpful. This was not the case; you in fact did not know how to help. You made an assumption and did not do the necessary work. You did not inquire if the fellow was hungry.
“This rebuke was to teach you. Today, when you come here you come with assumptions. These are based upon previous learning and in this endeavor is baggage. You think that by coming here and asking questions you will get answers, but you are not yet fitted for the answers. You have not done the necessary work, which, in this case, is examining your assumptions. How do you know you can benefit from this situation, because you think you can?
“It is only the Light that has the real knowledge in this matter. So, you were called here to begin the process of learning.
“For an action to be beneficial, it must be the right time, in the right place, with the right people.”
